UN Secretary-General Discusses with Omani Foreign Minister Efforts to De-escalate the Region

Muscat, September 9 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary-General António Guterres held talks today, Wednesday, with Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi on efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and create conducive conditions for the resumption of dialogue and diplomatic initiatives aimed at addressing outstanding issues through political means. The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the discussion took place during a phone call received by Al Busaidi from Guterries, during which a number of regional developments and their humanitarian repercussions were reviewed. According to the statement, Guterres praised the “constructive” role played by the Sultanate of Oman in supporting diplomatic efforts and bridging differences, emphasizing the importance of continuing coordination and consultation between the two sides to enhance de-escalation efforts and bolster the humanitarian response. For his part, Minister Al Busaidi stressed the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts, exercising wisdom and restraint, and allowing space for political and diplomatic initiatives to contain tensions and address matters of concern, thereby consolidating security, stability, and peace in the region.
