Arab League organizes a roundtable on digital entrepreneurship in the tourism sector

Cairo, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- The Arab League organized a roundtable today on the digital entrepreneurship program in the tourism sector and rural tourism in Arab countries, with participation from government entities and representatives of the private sector.

In an opening address, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs Ambassador Dr. Ali Al-Maliki said the convening of the roundtable falls within the League’s role in supporting the trajectory of joint Arab economic action, facilitating frameworks for dialogue, consultation, and the exchange of expertise and best practices among member states, organizations, and the private sector.

Al-Maliki added that the program aims to build capacities, incubate startups, and empower the ecosystem supporting entrepreneurship, innovation, and digitalization in the targeted countries, emphasizing the League’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and coordination with partners in joint Arab action and regional and international organizations.

He clarified that this is achieved by exploring common mechanisms to coordinate and unify efforts across various economic topics and issues of shared interest, thereby strengthening the capacity to confront challenges and rapid changes in the Arab region and the world.

The roundtable discusses the challenges facing digital entrepreneurship in the tourism and rural tourism sectors, and identifies promising opportunities prioritized for cooperation and investment. The roundtable’s proceedings are expected to conclude with a package of practical, actionable recommendations and policies to improve the enabling environment for entrepreneurship in the tourism sector and to strengthen partnerships and networking between government entities and the private sector, regarded as a key partner in driving economic development.

The roundtable also seeks to prepare recommendations for the digital entrepreneurship and rural tourism ecosystem in Egypt, to serve as a reference for replicating the experience in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and the Comoros, ultimately leading to regional recommendations at the level of participating countries.

The event aims to enhance entrepreneurship, innovation, and digitalization in the tourism sector, particularly rural tourism, through a partnership between the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, the Arab Tourism Organization, and the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, with support from the “Aftiaz” initiative under the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit.
