Yemen strongly condemns Houthi militia attacks on Saudi Arabia's southern region
Aden, 8 Sept (KUNA) -- The Yemeni government strongly condemned on Tuesday the “terrorist” attacks carried out by the Houthi militia, which targeted civilians, civilian and economic facilities, and energy infrastructure in the southern region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that these attacks represent a continuation of the Houthi militia’s hostile approach, backed by continuous Iranian support in terms of weapons, financing, and military expertise, enabling it to threaten the security of Yemen and neighboring countries, as well as target civilians, facilities, and vital interests.
It expressed Yemen’s full solidarity and steadfast support for Saudi Arabia, its leadership, government, and people, and affirmed its backing for all measures taken to protect the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, citizens, residents, and national assets. It emphasized that the security of the Kingdom is an integral part of Yemen’s security and regional stability.
The statement noted that the targeting of Saudi Arabia comes within the context of the militia’s ongoing escalation inside Yemen, particularly in the Taiz governorate and the western coast, alongside its attempts to alter the ground reality to serve its ambitions to expand toward the Bab al-Mandab strait and threaten the security of the Red Sea and maritime navigation.
It added that this escalation undermines the relative calm that had prevailed in recent years and reveals an interconnected trajectory whose risks extend from inside Yemen to the security of neighboring countries and vital maritime passages.
The statement placed full responsibility for these attacks and their repercussions on the Houthi militia and its supporters, calling on the international community to take practical and resolute measures to halt the flow of weapons, financing, and military expertise to the militia, and to hold its backers accountable, foremost among them the Iranian regime.
It also called for ensuring compliance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216, noting that confronting this threat cannot remain subject to temporary fixes or merely containing the repercussions of escalation rounds.
The Yemeni Foreign Ministry statement stressed the necessity of supporting Yemeni state institutions and empowering them to extend their sovereignty and authority over the entirety of Yemen’s territory, coasts, and territorial waters, thereby preventing the use of Yemen’s geography to threaten neighboring countries and the security of maritime passages.
