Spain condemns Houthi attacks on Yemeni government forces and civilian targets in Saudi Arabia

Madrid, Sept 8 (KUNA) -- Spain strongly condemned on Tuesday the attacks launched by Houthi militias against the internationally recognized Yemeni government forces and against civilian facilities in several areas of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In a statement, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Spain’s deep concern over the widening scope of regional instability caused by the Houthi group, considering their attacks a threat to Saudi sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as to freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. The statement warned that the escalation of violence threatens stability and security in the Middle East, while also noting that the Spanish government hopes for the swift recovery of those injured in the attacks and expresses its solidarity with the governments of Yemen and Saudi Arabia. In light of the recent escalation in Yemen, Spain reaffirmed its support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the internationally recognized Yemeni government in their efforts to establish stability in the country and counter attempts to interfere in internal affairs, in violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2216. Madrid called on the Houthis to halt their attacks and violations of international law, end the escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region, and return to the negotiating table to reach a “permanent and sustainable” solution.
