Arab League Secretary-General Condemns Houthi Militia Attacks on Saudi Arabia

Cairo, Sept 8 (KUNA) – Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy strongly condemned on Tuesday the escalation by Houthi militias against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian and economic facilities, as well as threats to navigation security in the Red Sea. In a statement, Fahmi described these attacks as “an unacceptable targeting of the Kingdom’s security and the safety of its citizens and residents on its territory,” reaffirming the Arab League’s full solidarity with the Kingdom and its steadfast support in confronting any actions that threaten its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He expressed support for the legitimate measures undertaken by the Kingdom to protect its citizens and national interests, emphasizing that Saudi security constitutes a fundamental pillar of the Arab national security system, and that the stability and security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are an integral part of the security and stability of the Arab region. The Secretary-General warned against the continued Houthi escalation, noting that it poses a highly dangerous development for regional security and stability, violates the rules of international law, international humanitarian law, the UN Charter, and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. He stressed that these attacks constitute a blatant challenge to relevant UN Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216, and called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities to deter such attacks and hold perpetrators accountable. It is recalled that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia earlier today announced that Houthi militias had targeted civilian and economic facilities in the Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran regions, resulting in 73 civilian casualties, including women and children.
