Head of the Bahraini Court of Audit: Gulf Audit Institutions Enhance Integrity and Government Performance Efficiency
Manama, Sept 8 (KUNA) -- The head of Bahrain’s Audit Bureau, Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, said on Tuesday that Gulf audit institutions play a pivotal role in enhancing integrity and improving the efficiency of government performance. He noted that rapid developments in technology and artificial intelligence offer new opportunities to develop audit tools, improve the quality of outputs, and strengthen their impact.
These remarks were made by the head of Bahrain’s Audit Bureau during the 23rd meeting of the heads of financial and accounting audit institutions of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The meeting was attended by Assistant Secretary-General for Legislative and Legal Affairs at the GCC Secretariat General, Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Thani, along with the heads of Gulf audit institutions, including Kuwait’s Auditor General Essam Al-Roumi.
Sheikh Ahmed emphasized that the meeting embodies the deep fraternal bonds uniting GCC member states and reflects the firm commitment of the GCC leaders to strengthening Gulf cooperation and integration, and developing their institutions to serve the aspirations of the GCC countries and their peoples. He added that professional cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and expertise among Gulf audit institutions constitute a fundamental pillar for building a more future-ready audit system, better equipped to keep pace with rapid challenges and changes.
He stressed the importance of continuing to enhance joint Gulf coordination and consolidating institutional integration among audit institutions, in line with the GCC leaders’ aspirations for greater development, sustainability, and institutional effectiveness.
The meeting discussed a number of initiatives and projects aimed at developing Gulf audit work, the most prominent of which is the project to establish an artificial intelligence-supported electronic platform that consolidates the outputs of the financial and accounting audit institutions of the GCC countries. This initiative aims to facilitate access to institutional knowledge and enhance the utilization of accumulated expertise across the region.
The heads of Gulf audit institutions also reviewed updates on the GCC Competition for Research and Studies in the field of audit and accounting, as well as the results of follow-up on recommendations derived from winning research papers in previous editions, thereby supporting the development of professional practices and fostering innovation in audit work.
The heads of audit institutions were briefed on training programs implemented during 2025 and 2026, and on events scheduled as part of the Gulf Week for Financial and Administrative Audit, which aim to develop human capacities and enhance specialized competencies in various fields of audit and accounting.
Emphasizing the importance of investing in professional competencies, the meeting witnessed the honoring of several outstanding employees from the financial and accounting audit institutions of the GCC countries, in recognition of their contributions to developing audit work and supporting the journey of institutional excellence.
The meeting concluded by reaffirming the importance of continuing to build on achieved cooperation and joint coordination, and accelerating the adoption of digital and innovative solutions to enhance the readiness of Gulf audit institutions for future requirements and to consolidate their role in supporting good governance and financial sustainability in GCC countries.
