Iraq's Oil Minister: Oil Exports Rise to 3 Million Barrels per Day

Baghdad, Sept 8 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Oil Minister Basim al-Abadi announced on Tuesday that the country’s oil exports have risen to three million barrels per day in September, affirming Iraq’s commitment to achieving a leap forward in its oil and gas industries and opening additional oil export routes.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Fourth Iraq International Oil, Gas, and Oil Projects Exhibition and Conference, as well as the licensing rounds, al-Abadi said, “The oil sector is going through an important phase amid exceptional regional and international conditions,” noting that efforts are underway to achieve further increases in production and export capacities.

He added that his government has made significant efforts to raise oil exports from 200,000 barrels per day at the start of the Strait of Hormuz crisis, reaching three million barrels per day in the first week of September, a figure that stands out among countries affected by the war in the region.

He pointed out that his government is currently holding discussions with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to increase Iraq’s export quota, clarifying that the ministry is working to turn challenges into opportunities for development.

The conference is scheduled to continue until September 11, with participation from a number of local and international oil companies, experts, and institutions. (End) A.H.H. / S.M.A.
