Bahrain strongly condemns the renewed terrorist Houthi attacks on civilians and vital facilities in Saudi Arabia
Manama, August 8 (KUNA) -- The Kingdom of Bahrain expressed its strong condemnation and deep outrage over the renewed terrorist attacks carried out by the Houthi militia, which targeted a number of civilian, economic, and vital facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, resulting in injuries to several civilians, including women and children.
In a statement, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that these attacks, along with the continued targeting of commercial vessels and the threat to the freedom and security of international navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, constitute a serious escalation and a blatant violation of the rules of international law, international humanitarian law, the UN Charter, and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. They also represent a clear defiance of relevant Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216 and Resolution 2817, which called for an end to all support for armed groups in the region and for actions aimed at interfering with maritime trade.
The Ministry emphasized the Kingdom of Bahrain’s full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its complete support for all measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and stability, as well as to protect its citizens, residents, and vital facilities. It commended the efficiency and vigilance of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces in countering these attacks and protecting civilian lives.
It affirmed that the security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are an integral part of the security of the Kingdom of Bahrain and all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, based on deep-rooted fraternal and historical ties, shared destiny, and the GCC Joint Defense Agreement. Bahrain expressed its wishes for the swift recovery of all the injured.
The Ministry called on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to fulfill its responsibilities and take a firm stance to deter these heinous terrorist attacks, hold their perpetrators accountable, and implement relevant Security Council resolutions. Such actions would contribute to safeguarding regional and international security and stability, protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, and ensuring the freedom, security, and safety of international navigation, energy supplies, and global trade.
The Ministry reiterated the Kingdom of Bahrain’s firm stance against rejecting violence and terrorism in all their forms and manifestations, and its support for all efforts that preserve the security, stability, and safety of international navigation and energy supplies in the region.
