Lebanese President reviews with Transparency International head efforts to combat corruption and enhance governance

Beirut, Sept 7 (KUNA) -- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met today, Monday, with Transparency International Global President Dr. Francois Valeryan to review the organization’s work, programs, and efforts in combating corruption and strengthening governance and institutions in Lebanon.

The Lebanese Presidency said in a statement that President Aoun received Dr. Valeryan, who led a delegation from the organization, at Baabda Palace. The meeting was attended by Nada Abdul Sattar, lawyer and Vice President of the Administrative Board of the Transparency International Lebanon branch (La Fasad), as well as other board members.

The statement clarified that the delegation briefed President Aoun on the key programs implemented by the organization in Lebanon, particularly supporting the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, as well as capacity-building programs with various ministries and municipalities, and sectoral work in environmental compliance. It emphasized his solidarity with Lebanon and the importance of strengthening institutional capacities and entrenching the principles of governance and accountability to restore public trust in the state.

The Lebanese National News Agency also reported that the organization’s president and his accompanying delegation visited the headquarters of the National Anti-Corruption Authority in the Fardan area and met with its head, Judge Claude Karam, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation ties and review the authority’s achievements. Dr. Valeryan reaffirmed his constant readiness to cooperate with the authority through various branches of the organization worldwide. (End) F.Z. / F.A.S.
