(Health) Launches the Retinal and Vitreous Surgery Unit at the Ophthalmology Department of Al-Jahra Hospital

Kuwait City, 7 Sept (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Health launched today, Monday, the Retinal and Vitreous Surgery Unit in the Ophthalmology Department at Al-Jahra Hospital, coinciding with the successful performance of the hospital’s first precise and complex retinal surgery. This marks a significant step toward developing and expanding ophthalmic medical and surgical services across Kuwait.
In a press release, the Ministry stated that Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Atiqi successfully performed the first precise retinal surgery at Al-Jahra Hospital, signaling the commencement of retinal and vitreous surgery services at the facility. This initiative is part of broader efforts to bring specialized medical services closer to patients and reduce the need to refer cases to other hospitals.
According to the statement, Dr. Ahmed Al-Fudari, Chairman of the Ophthalmology Departments Council at the Ministry of Health, emphasized that the launch of the unit aligns with the Council’s vision to provide a comprehensive range of therapeutic and specialized ophthalmic services across all regions of the country. This aims to enhance the geographic distribution of specialized services, thereby facilitating patient access and improving the quality and efficiency of the healthcare provided.
Dr. Al-Fudari praised the medical and organizational efforts undertaken by Dr. Hussein Al-Ansari, Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Al-Jahra Hospital, in preparing for the unit’s launch and readjusting the department to deliver this type of precise specialized surgery.
He clarified that the establishment of the Retinal and Vitreous Surgery Unit represents a qualitative addition to the ophthalmic care service system at Al-Jahra Hospital, and constitutes a new step within the Ministry of Health’s plan to develop and expand precise medical services across its hospitals.
