Integrity Authority Organizes Awareness Lecture on the Law Preventing Conflicts of Interest for Employees of Cooperative Societies
Kuwait City, 7 Sept (KUNA) — The Public Authority for Combating Corruption (Nazaha) organized an awareness lecture on the Law on Preventing Conflicts of Interest for employees of cooperative societies belonging to the executive and supervisory categories at its headquarters on Monday. The lecture, attended by 80 employees from cooperative societies, is part of the Authority’s efforts to promote a culture of integrity and transparency, enhance awareness of the risks of conflicts of interest, and clarify the legal regulations governing them, thereby contributing to the protection of public funds and the realization of the public interest.
During the lecture, Abdulhamid Al-Hammar, Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the Authority, provided an explanation of the concept of conflict of interest, highlighting relevant international legislations and experiences, as well as the provisions of Law No. 1 of 2023 on Preventing Conflicts of Interest and its Executive Regulations. He outlined the key articles and provisions and the mechanisms for their implementation.
Al-Hammar emphasized the importance of raising the level of legal awareness among employees and adhering to prescribed procedures to prevent conflicts of interest, which strengthens the integrity and impartiality of professional performance and supports trust in institutions. The lecture addressed situations that may give rise to conflicts of interest, the procedures to be followed when a private interest intersects with professional duties and responsibilities, and the legally mandated disclosure mechanisms, all of which enhance the objectivity of decisions and the integrity of institutional work.
The lecture featured discussions of several practical examples and cases, along with answers to participants’ inquiries regarding how to identify conflicts of interest and handle them within the established legal frameworks. (End) H.M.D. / A.M.H.
