Lebanese Minister of Justice: Investigation into Beirut Port blast concluded, paving the way for a substantive decision

Beirut, Sept 7 (KUNA) -- Lebanese Justice Minister Adil Nassar announced on Monday the completion of the investigation into the Beirut port explosion, paving the way for the issuance of a preliminary ruling. Nassar stated on his X (formerly Twitter) account that investigating judge Tariq Al-Bitar “has concluded his investigations and referred the file to the Supreme Council of the Judiciary for its review, in preparation for completing the process leading to the preliminary ruling.” He anticipated that this phase would be completed in October or by its end, noting that it constitutes “a fundamental step on the path to uncovering the truth and achieving justice in one of the most painful cases for Lebanese people.” Nassar added that “the independence of the judiciary and respect for legal procedures are the guarantees for reaching the truth and holding those responsible accountable.” The Beirut port witnessed a massive explosion on August 4, 2020, which claimed the lives of more than 220 people, injured over 6,500 others, and destroyed entire neighborhoods in the capital, Beirut.
