Palestine welcomes the Arab and Islamic stance rejecting Israeli occupation plans to displace Palestinians
Ramallah, Sept 7 (KUNA) -- The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) welcomed the joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Qatar, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Turkey, which condemned remarks made by ministers in the Israeli occupation government regarding the displacement of Palestinians.
In a press statement on Monday, PLO National Council Chairman Rawhi Fattouh said, “This position represents an important political step in confronting attempts to impose forced displacement as a fait accompli.”
Fattouh added that “proposing the displacement of Palestinians from their land cannot be treated as a transient political statement; rather, it constitutes open incitement to violate the rules of international humanitarian law and directly clashes with the prohibition of the forced transfer of protected populations, as well as with the obligations imposed by international conventions, resolutions, and relevant rules.”
He stressed that the danger of these statements lies in their association with field policies aimed at forcing residents to leave their areas through killing, destruction, siege, and starving civilians, which necessitates urgent international action to prevent these plans from being implemented as policy.
Fattouh called on the international community, led by the UN Security Council, to take practical and binding measures, hold accountable those responsible for inciting displacement, and ensure the protection of the Palestinian people and their inalienable right to remain on their land, leading to the end of the occupation and the realization of an independent State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.
The remarks came following statements by ministers in the Israeli occupation government calling for the displacement of Gaza Strip residents, coinciding with the genocide being carried out by the occupation, the evacuation of entire cities and camps, and the destruction of buildings, residential towers, schools, hospitals, medical centers, and institutions.
