Egypt: Kuwait's Athletics Team Wins Three Medals at the Arab Junior Championships

Cairo, Sept 6 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti athletics team secured three medals (gold, silver, and bronze) today, Sunday, at the 12th Arab Junior Athletics Championships for athletes under 18, held in the capital Cairo, raising their total tally to five diverse medals.
Faisal Al-Dosari, head of the Kuwaiti delegation participating in the Arab championships, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Kuwaiti team athlete Yasmeen Walid won the gold medal in the high jump event with a height of 1.66 meters, while athlete Abbas Al-Nasser claimed the silver medal in the pole vault with a height of 4.20 meters.
Al-Dosari added that athlete Haider Al-Qattan also succeeded in securing third place and the bronze medal in the 100-meter race, setting a new personal best time of 10.77 seconds.
In this context, he expressed his satisfaction with the outstanding level displayed by Kuwaiti male and female athletes during the championship competitions. He emphasized that winning five medals at the beginning of the tournament—consisting of two gold, two silver, and one bronze medal, along with several new personal records set by the athletes—serves as a positive indicator of the development of Kuwaiti athletics and the success of the preparation phase for the championship.
He stated, "We are proud of what our sons and daughters have achieved in this championship. The results obtained were not limited to medals alone; the competitions also saw the achievement of new personal records by several athletes, which is very important at this age group."
Al-Dosari affirmed that participating in Arab championships provides athletes with an important opportunity to gain experience and build a new generation capable of representing Kuwait and achieving future successes. He praised the significant efforts made by the technical and administrative staff, as well as the athletes, noting that these results were the outcome of continuous work, good preparation, and commitment from all team members.
He also extended his thanks to the tournament organizing committee, the Arab Athletics Federation, and the Egyptian Athletics Federation for their excellent organization and hospitality, wishing all participating Arab teams success and good fortune.
Furthermore, he expressed gratitude to the board of directors of the Kuwait Athletics Federation and the Public Authority for Youth and Sports for their support of the national team, as well as to the parents of the athletes, hoping for the continuation of this development and the achievement of more successes for Kuwaiti athletics in upcoming championships.
He stressed that what was achieved in Cairo represents "an important step, and we look forward to building on these results and working to develop the levels of our athletes, aiming to achieve greater accomplishments and raise the Kuwaiti flag high at Arab and international forums."
Yesterday, athlete Abdulrahman Al-Azmi won the gold medal in the long jump event, while his teammate Fahad Al-Dhafiri secured the silver medal in the same event.
The championship, held at the Olympic Center in Maadi, Cairo, features participation from 15 Arab countries: Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iraq, Syria, Morocco, Tunisia, Djibouti, the Sultanate of Oman, Lebanon, Libya, and Egypt (the host country), with a total of approximately 276 athletes.
