Arab League Secretary-General Condemns Israeli Statements on Displacing the Palestinian People from Gaza
Cairo, Sept 6 (KUNA) – Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy strongly condemned on Sunday the statements issued by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir of the Israeli occupation government regarding the displacement of the Palestinian people from the Gaza Strip, warning of their repercussions on peace and stability in the region.
In a statement, Fahmy affirmed that these statements defy the efforts of the international community aimed at achieving peace, ending the war in Gaza, and putting an end to the humanitarian suffering endured by the sector’s residents for months as a result of continuous Israeli escalation and unilateral policies.
He stressed that talk of displacing the Palestinian people is categorically and completely rejected, emphasizing that such statements, plans, and measures targeting the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people constitute a clear and blatant violation of the principles of international law and international humanitarian law.
He considered that the issuance of these statements at this time, coinciding with the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, reflects the occupation authority’s intent to complicate the situation, endanger the security and stability of the region, and divert attention from the real causes obstructing peace efforts.
He reiterated his support for the resilience of the Palestinian people on their land, considering that the geographical and demographic situation of the Gaza Strip is fundamentally an inseparable part of the issue of establishing an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant international legitimacy resolutions.
Fahmy warned of the dangerous consequences of these statements for peace and stability in the region, considering them a continuation of Israeli escalation that heralds a new wave of instability driven by narrow electoral calculations.
He called on the international community and its institutions to confront such statements and fulfill their responsibilities to halt any initiatives that could bring about changes on the ground or alter the demographic composition of the Palestinian people, thereby imposing a new reality that undermines their full inalienable rights.
