GCC Health Ministers Council Holds Its 89th Meeting in Manama with Participation of Kuwait's Minister of Health
Manama, Sept 6 (KUNA) -- The Kingdom of Bahrain hosted the 89th meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Health Ministers Council today, Sunday, with participation from the Gulf health ministers, including Kuwait’s Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi, and the Director General of the GCC Health Council, Sulaiman Al-Duwaikh, as part of Bahrain’s presidency of the 46th session of the Council.
During her chairing of the meeting, Bahrain’s Minister of Health, Dr. Jalila bint Sayyid Jawad Hassan, emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen joint GCC health efforts and building on the cooperation and integration achieved among GCC member states in the health sector. This, she noted, supports the development and sustainability of health systems and enhances their capacity to keep pace with rapid changes and developments in the health field.
She highlighted the role played by the GCC Health Council in translating strategic directions and visions into executive initiatives, projects, and programs that serve the health sector in GCC countries. She affirmed that the progress made in this area reflects the level of GCC coordination and integration, as well as the shared commitment to enhancing the efficiency of health systems and the quality of services provided to citizens and residents.
She also pointed out the importance of continuing coordination, exchanging expertise, and integrating efforts across various health fields to strengthen the efficiency and sustainability of health systems and support the trajectory of joint GCC health work, thereby realizing the aspirations of GCC countries and their peoples.
The meeting discussed several items on the agenda, including the strategic performance report on monitoring the implementation of the GCC Health Council and the GCC Center for Disease Prevention 2026-2030 strategy, updates related to the Council’s internal regulations and its appendices, and the charters of the supervisory committees. It also reviewed the budget and initiatives of the GCC Health Council and the GCC Center for Disease Prevention for 2027, as well as draft decisions submitted to the Council. (End) K.N.A / N.S.A
