Lebanon: Israeli occupation continues its attacks on southern towns
Beirut, Sept 6 (KUNA) -- Israeli occupation forces continued their attacks on southern Lebanon on Sunday through bombings and artillery shelling that targeted several towns. The Lebanese National News Agency said in a statement that occupation forces carried out a violent explosion in the town of Mansouri, coinciding with heavy artillery shelling on the Marj area between the towns of Al-Haniya and Mansouri, south of Sidon.
In a related development, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, during a phone call with Abbas Fakhreddine, mayor of Nabatieh, affirmed the government’s support for the city of Nabatieh and its towns following attacks that resulted in casualties. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the return of residents, their resilience, and ensuring all necessary measures to keep public services operational and meet citizens’ needs.
Salam also praised Finance Minister Yassin Jaber during a separate phone call for his efforts and swift action in taking the necessary steps to ensure continuity of operations, safeguard citizens’ interests, and prevent disruption of their transactions, following damage to the Finance Ministry building in Nabatieh.
For his part, Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri said in a statement that the Israeli occupation “has clearly demonstrated that it has not adhered to any form of ceasefire agreement, and is flouting all rules, agreements, and understandings.” He added that “what has happened and is happening in the south is not only an international responsibility that demands urgent intervention to halt the war on Lebanon and its south, but also a national responsibility requiring all parties to stand by the south.”
Israeli occupation forces launched a series of airstrikes in the morning targeting several areas in the south, causing damage to Gandour Hospital in Upper Nabatieh and a building belonging to the Finance Ministry.
