Cairo, Sept 6 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy on Sunday condemned Israeli occupation attacks on civilians and infrastructure in southern Lebanon, affirming that they constitute a violation of sovereignty and a breach of international law and international humanitarian law. In a statement, Fahmy denounced Israeli attacks that targeted civilian sites in Nabatieh, including the destruction of a hospital and a building belonging to the Lebanese Ministry of Finance. He called on actors in the international community, foremost among them the United States as the guarantor of the ceasefire agreement reached last June, to compel the Israeli occupation to immediately halt these attacks and fully comply with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. He stressed that the continuation of such aggressive behavior represents a dangerous escalation threatening the security and stability of the entire region, emphasizing that targeting civilians, health facilities, and the destruction of villages and infrastructure cannot be justified under any pretext. He stated that these attacks reflect the occupation state’s lack of seriousness regarding the diplomatic track and its continuous efforts to entrench a new reality in southern Lebanon through the use of force and violence. The Arab League reaffirmed its full solidarity with and support for the Lebanese state in its efforts to safeguard Lebanon’s sovereignty and preserve its security and stability. (End) MM / NS
