(Russian) Kremlin: Putin's meeting with US envoys "constructive and very frank"

Moscow, Sept 6 (KUNA) -- The Russian presidency (the Kremlin) described on Sunday the meeting between President Vladimir Putin and US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner as “constructive and very frank,” noting that the talks lasted more than three hours and addressed ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. In this regard, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told journalists that the meeting was “useful and fruitful for both sides and came at the right time,” adding that the US envoys had conducted serious preparations for their visit to Moscow and raised several ideas during the talks regarding possible solutions to the Ukrainian crisis. Ushakov further stated that President Putin emphasized the need to address all the “root causes” of the Ukrainian conflict, reaffirming Moscow’s readiness to continue working with the United States to reach a political and diplomatic settlement. He clarified that Witkoff and Kushner pledged to take Putin’s assessments into account during their upcoming contacts in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, noting that work through the Witkoff and Kushner channels would continue in parallel with ongoing communications between President Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump. The Russian presidential aide pointed out that the talks were not limited to the Ukrainian file but also covered the possibility of implementing large Russian-US projects, without providing further details on the nature of these projects. The US envoys’ talks in Moscow come within the framework of a new US initiative to push efforts to end the war in Ukraine, amid expectations that Witkoff and Kushner will hold similar discussions in Kyiv.
