Egyptian Foreign Minister and Senior Presidential Advisor Discuss Developments in Sudan and Libya
Cairo, Sept 5 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and U.S. President’s Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Masad Boulos, discussed on Saturday the developments in the situations in Sudan and Libya. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that this came during a telephone call between the two sides, as part of the ongoing consultations between Egypt and the United States. The parties discussed the strategic bilateral relations between the two countries, the latest developments of the crisis in Sudan, the evolving situation in Libya, and ways to achieve security and stability in both countries.
Regarding the Sudanese issue, the two sides reviewed ongoing diplomatic moves and contacts aimed at halting escalation and addressing the continuous deterioration of the humanitarian situation. Minister Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of building on current efforts to stop the conflict and ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to its rightful recipients. He reiterated the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions, and rejecting external interventions that could prolong the crisis or complicate resolution efforts. He noted that resolving the Sudanese crisis requires, in parallel, launching a comprehensive political process led and owned by Sudanese actors, which safeguards state institutions and responds to the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
Concerning the situation in Libya, the call addressed ways to create the necessary conditions for making progress in the Libyan political process and ending the state of division. Abdelatty stressed that Egypt’s initiatives are guided by the priority of preserving Libya’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the cohesion of its national institutions, while emphasizing that the political process must remain purely Libyan. He pointed out that holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously represents a fundamental step toward restoring stability. He underscored the importance of integrating regional and international efforts supporting the political process, to help Libyans reach a sustainable settlement that reflects their will and preserves the unity of the state and its institutions.
Regarding bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States, the two sides discussed ways to advance the strategic partnership between the two countries and enhance cooperation and coordination across various fields, building on the momentum currently characterizing bilateral ties to serve mutual interests. Both sides expressed pride in the long-standing partnership between their countries and their commitment to continuing its development across various sectors, particularly in economic, trade, and investment fields, reflecting the unique nature of relations between the two countries and serving the aspirations of both the Egyptian and American peoples.
