Egyptian and Omani Foreign Ministers Discuss Efforts to Contain Current Regional Tensions

Cairo, Sept 5 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation with his Omani counterpart Badr Al Busaidi to discuss developments in the regional landscape and efforts to contain current tensions. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that Abdelatty stressed during the call the priority of halting escalation and avoiding any steps that could inflame tensions and threaten the security and stability of the region, emphasizing the need to create space for diplomatic efforts as the optimal path to address the root causes of the crisis. Abdelatty also underscored the importance of returning to negotiations between the United States and Iran in accordance with the Islamabad Memorandum and building upon it as a framework that enables resolving outstanding issues through dialogue and negotiation. The statement noted that the conversation also touched on developments in the Strait of Hormuz and their implications for regional security and the global economy, with both ministers stressing the necessity of preserving the security and safety of maritime navigation and ensuring the smooth flow of trade and energy supplies.
