Moscow: Western weapons production facilities in Ukraine are "legitimate targets" for Russian forces
Moscow, Sept 4 (KUNA) -- The Russian presidency (the Kremlin) stated on Friday that any Western-made weapons production facilities in Ukraine would become “legitimate targets” for the Russian armed forces. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said in a press statement that Moscow had received information regarding plans by Germany and France to develop long-range missile systems and unmanned aerial systems, adding that it was currently verifying the accuracy of these reports.
In a related development, Peskov firmly rejected German accusations that Russia was involved in a drone incident in Leipzig, describing them as “baseless” and lacking any evidence. He affirmed that Russia’s position on the conditions for a settlement in Ukraine, as outlined by President Vladimir Putin two years ago during a speech at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “remains unchanged,” while noting that communications aimed at reaching a resolution to the conflict were ongoing.
He emphasized that the possibility of a peaceful settlement in Ukraine should not be ruled out, but added that there were “no concrete reasons yet” to speak of progress in this direction. The Kremlin spokesperson also stated that the United States remained willing to play a mediating role in efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement regarding Ukraine, confirming that Moscow was “ready for that.”
In a separate development, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its forces had targeted a cargo ship carrying military supplies for Ukrainian forces from Western countries at the port of Chornomorsk. The ministry said in a statement that Russian forces also targeted a cargo ship and a tanker east of Odesa, noting that they were carrying components used in the production of drones, as well as ammunition and fuel for Ukrainian forces.
It added that Russian strikes also hit a logistics center in the Kyiv region, which it said was designated for storing and distributing dual-use goods and military equipment, as well as another logistics center in the Mykolaiv region, which the ministry described as supplying military equipment to Ukrainian forces.
