Moscow calls on ICAO to condemn Kyiv's threats to Russian civil aviation

Moscow, Sept 4 (KUNA) -- The Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday called on the Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to condemn “threats posed by the Kyiv regime to Russian civil aviation.” In a statement, the ministry expressed its rejection of notifications issued by Ukrainian authorities alleging the unsafety of Russian airspace, deeming such notifications unfounded. At the same time, it stressed Moscow’s full commitment to ensuring the safety of civil aviation. It said that relevant Russian authorities are in contact with ICAO leadership regarding threats to civil aviation from Ukraine, urging the organization to take a position on these threats. These developments follow Ukraine’s notification to ICAO that Russian airspace is “unsafe” for civil aviation, citing the escalation of military activity and drone attacks within Russian territory, and calling on airlines to avoid using it.
