Minister of Public Works: Oman's Green Mobility Forum Supports Gulf States' Trends Toward More Efficient and Sustainable Transport Solutions
Muscat, Sept 4 (KUNA) -- Public Works Minister Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan emphasized on Friday the importance of participating in the Second Gulf Forum for Green Mobility in the Sultanate of Oman, highlighting its role in supporting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries’ shift toward more efficient, sustainable, and low-carbon transport solutions.
In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) following the conclusion of her participation in the forum, held in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, Minister Al-Mashaan noted that the event brought together officials, experts, and specialists from GCC member states, including Omani Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology Engineer Saeed Al-Mawlawi, and was attended by Kuwait’s Ambassador to the Sultanate, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hajjari.
Al-Mashaan stated that “this Gulf platform offers a suitable opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about modern projects and initiatives that support the development of transport systems, enhancing their efficiency and sustainability, thereby aligning with the objectives of Kuwait and other GCC member states toward more efficient, sustainable, and low-carbon transport solutions.”
She added that participation in the forum aims to strengthen Gulf cooperation and exchange expertise in transport, infrastructure, logistics, sustainable mobility, and to explore modern projects and green energy-based initiatives.
The forum, held under the patronage of Dhofar Governor Marwan Al-Said and concluding on Thursday, showcased the latest GCC initiatives and projects in sustainable mobility, while highlighting Oman’s efforts to develop a more efficient, sustainable, and low-carbon transport system in line with “Oman Vision 2040” and its goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The closing ceremony saw the announcement of a package of agreements, projects, and initiatives in transport, logistics, and green mobility, with a total value exceeding OMR 600 million (approximately USD 1.56 billion). It also marked the launch of Oman’s national “Shahen” application for electric vehicle charging services, the adoption of the regulatory framework for electric charging point operators, and the establishment of service fee tariffs.
The event also highlighted green mobility investments in Oman, which surpassed OMR 320 million (USD 831.6 million) in 2025, covering projects in ports, marine fuels, shipping, electric mobility, fast-charging centers, and supporting technologies and solutions.
Announced projects included the operation of Oman’s first hydrogen production, supply, and distribution station in partnership with Shell Oman, the deployment of the first 15 light-duty hydrogen vehicles powered by green hydrogen, ship recycling projects, shore power supply for docked vessels, and the establishment of an integrated facility for green methanol production and supply to ships.
