Turkey announces thwarting of a plot by ISIS to launch a terrorist attack

Istanbul, Sept 4 (KUNA) -- Turkey announced on Friday the thwarting of a plot by the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) to carry out a terrorist attack within the country, after security forces managed to neutralize a member of the group in an operation in the European part of Istanbul. The Turkish Anadolu Agency (AA) quoted the Istanbul governorate in a statement saying that the Counter-Terrorism Branch Directorate of the Istanbul Security Directorate, in coordination with the Intelligence Branch Directorate, carried out an operation aimed at arresting a 21-year-old suspect believed to be linked to ISIS and planning a terrorist attack inside the country. It added that the suspect opened fire on police officers, prompting them to return fire and neutralize him in the Sultanbeyli district in the European part of Istanbul, noting that a Turkish citizen was injured in the incident.
