US Treasury Secretary Praises "Strong European Support" for His Country's Economic Measures Against Iran
Washington, Sept 4 (KUNA) – U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Friday praised what he described as “strong European support” for his country’s efforts to economically isolate Iran as part of the “Economic Outcast” campaign. Bessent, in a post on the X platform, said the United States appreciates the European Union’s “strong and early” stance in backing U.S. sanctions against Iran. He affirmed that “the United States stands firmly with its allies to ensure that the Iranian regime cannot exploit the global financial system to fund its nuclear ambitions, its weapons programs, and its terrorist proxies.” He added that “the entire world is sending a clear message to the Iranian regime that we will not stop until every remaining financial lifeline is cut.” The United States launched the “Economic Outcast” operation on August 24 last year, a campaign aimed at cutting off the financial and trade channels on which Iran relies and tightening sanctions on entities that help it circumvent sanctions or generate revenue. The campaign includes expanding secondary sanctions, threatening entities that continue to deal with Iran with exclusion from the dollar-based financial system. (End) A.M.M. / M.A.H.A.
