UN Mission in Libya grants House of Representatives and House of States one month to approve the "4+4" agreement

Tunis, Sept 3 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced on Thursday that it had sent the agreement on holding elections, signed by the Mini-Dialogue Committee (4+4) a few days earlier, to the House of Representatives and the State Council, granting them one month to approve it. The mission stated in a press release that Stephanie Khoury, Deputy Special Representative for Political Affairs, confirmed in a television interview that the agreement reached by the mini-dialogue meeting regarding the roadmap for the presidencies of the House of Representatives and the State Council had been transmitted, with a one-month deadline from the date of signing for their approval. The agreement stipulates that legislative and presidential elections be held under a single executive authority and unified national institutions within a period not exceeding 24 months, and that the High National Elections Commission be reconstituted. The UN mission is making efforts to resolve the crisis stemming from the conflict between two governments: the Government of National Unity, based in Tripoli and administering western Libya, and the other, mandated by the House of Representatives in early 2022, based in Benghazi and administering eastern Libya and most of the southern regions.
