India and Belgium agree to enhance bilateral cooperation

New Delhi, Sept 3 (KUNA) -- India and Belgium agreed today on Thursday to enhance bilateral cooperation in a number of fields, particularly trade and security. This came in a statement issued following a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Belgian counterpart, Bart De Wever, in New Delhi, where both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade, defense, energy, and multilateral security. According to the statement, both sides welcomed the launch of the first India-Belgium Strategic Dialogue last July, affirming that it established a regular and comprehensive mechanism to advance cooperation in trade, investment, green transition, technology, connectivity, defense, security, and people-to-people ties. They renewed their call for a multilateral system centered on the UN Charter to preserve a just and peaceful international order, address urgent global challenges, and prepare the world to handle emerging developments, including in technological and economic fields. They stressed the urgent need to reform the UN Security Council to make it more representative of today’s world, while Belgium reiterated its support for India’s candidacy for a permanent seat on the Security Council.
