Malaysia calls on the United States and Iran to halt escalation and return to diplomacy

Kuala Lumpur, Sept 3 (KUNA) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called on the United States and Iran on Thursday to halt the escalation and immediately return to diplomacy and to the understandings reached last June. In a statement, Ibrahim expressed his deep concern over the renewed escalation between the United States and Iran in the region, warning that continued escalation threatens to draw the broader Middle East into a more destructive conflict. He said that “the conflict can ultimately be resolved only through political and diplomatic means,” emphasizing that the world must not pay the price for the outbreak of a wider regional war.
