UAE strongly condemns Iranian attack on Saudi tanker (Sadr)

Abu Dhabi, Sept 2 (KUNA) -- The United Arab Emirates today Wednesday strongly condemned the aggressive Iranian attack on the Saudi tanker Sadr as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in the deaths of several crew members. In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attack as a serious threat to the safety and security of international navigation and a dangerous escalation aimed at undermining the security and stability of one of the world’s most vital waterways. The UAE expressed its full solidarity with the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, reaffirming its support for all measures aimed at protecting the security and safety of its ships and national interests, and ensuring freedom of navigation in territorial and international waters. The ministry stressed that this assault constitutes a blatant violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which underscores the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and rejects the targeting of commercial vessels or the disruption of international maritime routes. It further emphasized that targeting commercial shipping or using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for economic pressure or coercion is unacceptable and poses a direct threat to regional stability, global energy security, and the integrity of international trade. Earlier today, the Saudi National Shipping Company (SNSC) announced the death of two Filipino sailors aboard its tanker Sadr following a security incident as the vessel transited the Strait of Hormuz, around 11:40 PM local time on Monday.
