Oman and Saudi Arabia discuss ways to enhance cooperation in economic, commercial, and industrial fields
Muscat, Sept 2 (KUNA) -- Oman and Saudi Arabia today discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, and industry, and to develop joint partnerships and initiatives between the two brotherly countries. The Omani News Agency reported that this took place during the seventh meeting of the heads of the coordination committee stemming from the Omani-Saudi Coordination Council, held in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, with the participation of several officials and representatives of relevant entities.
The agency quoted the Omani Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Trade and Industry, Ghalib Al-Mamari, as saying on this occasion that the meeting aims to evaluate initiatives, assess achievements, and set priorities to move from the ideation phase to the actual implementation of projects and programs according to a clear methodology that delivers tangible added value. Al-Mamari added that the historical ties between Oman and Saudi Arabia represent a "solid foundation for elevating cooperation to broader horizons."
The agency also quoted Saudi Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Planning for International Economic Affairs, Rakan Tarabzoni, who stated that the meeting is a continuation of ongoing efforts under the umbrella of the Joint Coordination Council, which have contributed to developing initiatives and supporting integration. Tarabzoni praised the rapid growth, the qualitative partnership, the facilitation of customs procedures, and the development of shared logistical infrastructure, all of which have contributed to increasing the volume of trade and sustainable development.
The meeting witnessed the signing of the executive program to activate the memorandum of understanding between the Omani Ministry of Economy and the Saudi Ministry of Economy and Planning in the field of economy and planning for the period from 2026 to 2028. This step aims to enhance institutional cooperation and joint coordination in economic and planning fields between the two sides.
The meeting also discussed the level of progress achieved in implementing joint initiatives between the two sides, alongside reviewing recommendations and future steps aimed at accelerating implementation, mitigating challenges, serving mutual interests, and enhancing the signing of agreements, memoranda of understanding, and proposals that enable the expansion of cooperation and deepen economic relations.
In parallel, a Saudi delegation led by Dr. Ramih Al-Ramih, Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, visited the ports of Sohar, Duqm, and Salalah to review the operational and logistical capacities of Omani ports and discuss cooperation and investment opportunities in the transport and logistics sector between the two brotherly countries.
The Omani Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology stated in a press release that the Saudi delegation reviewed the infrastructure, equipment, and services provided by Omani ports, and their role in supporting trade flows, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and strengthening logistical links between regional and international markets.
It added that the two sides held joint meetings during which they reviewed areas of cooperation in port management and operations, logistics services, and the exchange of expertise and experiences, alongside presenting available investment opportunities and the potential to develop joint partnerships that contribute to enhancing logistical integration between Oman and Saudi Arabia.
