Speaker of the Arab Parliament Condemns Iranian Attack on Saudi Tanker (Sidr)

Cairo, Sept 2 (KUNA) -- Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamahi condemned on Wednesday Iran’s attack on the Saudi tanker Sidra as it transited the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in casualties among the tanker’s crew, warning of the repercussions of undermining freedom of international navigation.

In a statement, Al-Yamahi said that targeting commercial ships and tankers while they are navigating international waterways constitutes a dangerous escalation and a clear violation of international law rules. He called for safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, noting the potential repercussions on the security and safety of international waterways, energy security, and global supply chains.

He urged the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in ensuring the security of international navigation and to take a firm stance against any practices that threaten the safety of international sea routes or endanger civilian lives.

Al-Yamahi reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in its measures to safeguard its security, stability, and the safety of its citizens and vital facilities. (End) MM/MEE
