The Gulf Forum for Green Mobility Discusses the Organization of Electric Charging and Green Hydrogen in Heavy Transport

Muscat, Sept 2 (KUNA) -- The second Gulf Forum on Green Mobility discussed, on Wednesday, a number of policies, regulations, and technical solutions related to developing a sustainable mobility system in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, with a focus on electric charging infrastructure and the role of green hydrogen in the heavy transport and logistics sector. This took place during a workshop titled “The Gulf Green Mobility System Laboratory,” held as part of the forum hosted in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, Sultanate of Oman. The first track of the workshop addressed regulatory frameworks and legislation governing electric vehicle charging stations, operational and management models for charging station operators, as well as ways to integrate charging infrastructure with smart grids and load management. Participants in this track explored investment challenges, licensing, and the provision of supporting infrastructure for electric mobility, along with the role of governments in creating a regulatory environment and incentivizing the private sector to participate in developing and expanding the electric charging market. The second track of the workshop focused on the role of green hydrogen in reducing emissions in the heavy transport sector, including trucks and buses, and assessed the readiness of logistics infrastructure to accommodate hydrogen technologies and their applications in transport. Participants discussed green hydrogen supply chain models in ports and industrial zones, and policies and incentives that could help stimulate demand for hydrogen in the transport sector, thereby supporting the transition toward low-emission transport solutions. The workshop is expected to produce a map highlighting regulatory and technical gaps related to electric mobility infrastructure, along with recommendations to help develop emerging markets in green mobility and prepare a preliminary framework for integrating electric charging systems and hydrogen solutions in the heavy transport sector. The second Gulf Forum on Green Mobility aims to enhance regional cooperation among GCC countries in sustainable mobility projects, and to exchange expertise and experiences in developing policies, infrastructure, and technologies supporting the transformation of the transport sector.
