Jordanian Minister of Communications: Arab Media is an Essential Part of the National Security System
Amman, Sept 2 (KUNA) — Jordanian Minister of Government Communication Dr. Mohammed Al-Mumani said on Wednesday that Arab and national media outlets are an essential component of the national security and stability framework in Arab countries. This statement came during a meeting between Al-Mumani and a delegation from the General Secretariat of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), with the participation of the acting Director General of the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Mohammed Al-Munaie, on the occasion of their meeting in the capital, Amman.
Al-Mumani emphasized that Arab media plays a pivotal role in shaping awareness and public opinion, and in defending just Arab causes amid the global information chaos and the flow of fake news. He stressed the depth of fraternal relations and ongoing cooperation at all levels with sister countries, commending the efforts made by the Federation’s General Secretariat and Arab news agencies in presenting the truth with professionalism.
He noted that the General Secretariat of the Federation of Arab News Agencies bears the responsibility of developing the efforts of official news agencies to provide advanced content for the Arab citizen, which necessitates a deeper presence by official news agencies to deliver media discourse to local, Arab, and international public opinion in a balanced and impactful manner.
He pointed out that the role of national and official media extends beyond the informational and professional dimensions; they are an integral part of the system defending the nation’s interests and just causes, and countering biased attempts to undermine the positions of Arab countries and their right to safeguard their security, stability, and economic development.
Regarding recent technological developments, including artificial intelligence, Al-Mumani clarified that Jordan is dealing seriously and consciously with the AI revolution. The Jordanian government has prepared a general policy for managing AI tools, which includes mandating the identification of AI-generated content, alongside an official circular prohibiting the use of AI tools to reproduce sovereign symbols, such as the state emblem and flag, to preserve their value and accuracy and prevent any distortion.
He added that the Ministry is working to transfer Jordan’s advanced media literacy experience to include awareness-raising about AI tools and their risks, particularly for school students, while seeking to form a specialized team within the Ministry of Government Communication to leverage these modern technologies to deliver media content in innovative ways to youth and emerging generations.
Al-Mumani called for not resisting these rapid technological developments, but rather harnessing and benefiting from them without succumbing to their risks, while continuing coordination and joint Arab action and drawing on successful experiences among official news agencies.
For their part, members of the Arab media delegation expressed their high appreciation for Jordan and its hospitality, praising the pioneering role of Jordanian media and the Jordan News Agency (Petra) in enhancing joint Arab efforts and conveying a reliable image of events.
Speakers outlined the key topics and challenges discussed by the Federation during its meetings in the Jordanian capital, Amman, including mechanisms for responding to the rapid flow of news, how to leverage the AI revolution to improve media production and counter misinformation, and expressed their hope to enhance and develop joint cooperation.
They stressed the importance of Arab solidarity to counter campaigns targeting Arab rights and positions, and to continue technological development to ensure that the Arab media message reaches various target segments effectively and with impact. (End) A.M.N. / A.N.D.
