Egypt and Qatar affirm the priority of an immediate halt to the escalation between the United States and Iran

Cairo, Sept 2 (KUNA) -- Egypt and Qatar affirmed the priority of an “immediate” halt to escalation, exercising maximum restraint, and the necessity of returning to the diplomatic track and resuming negotiations between the United States and Iran based on the Islamabad memorandum. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that this came during a phone call between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, as part of the continuous consultation and coordination between the two countries regarding developments in the region and ways to de-escalate tensions. The statement added that both sides considered dialogue and political solutions the only means to restore security and stability in the region. It pointed out that the two sides also stressed the danger of continuing the escalation approach and its serious repercussions on the security and stability of the region, the safety of its peoples, and freedom of navigation and international trade, reaffirming the necessity of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, the principles of good neighborliness, and ensuring the security and safety of navigation in international sea lanes.
