Arab League stresses the necessity of sustaining the ceasefire and implementing a comprehensive peace plan in Gaza
Cairo, Sept 2 (KUNA) -- The Arab League reiterated today, Wednesday, the necessity of securing a ceasefire in Gaza, delivering essential humanitarian aid to the Strip, and launching early recovery and reconstruction efforts. This came during a meeting between Dr. Faed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Lands Sector at the Arab League, and Anne Skaes, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt, according to a League statement.
The statement added that the meeting addressed recent developments regarding the Palestinian cause and the current situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, as well as international efforts aimed at achieving peace in the region, foremost among which is the implementation of the two-state solution, which constitutes the fundamental pillar for ensuring security, peace, and stability for all countries and peoples of the region.
It clarified that Mustafa outlined during the meeting the catastrophic humanitarian conditions suffered by the Palestinian people as a result of the continued practices and violations by the Israeli occupation, emphasizing the Arab League’s commitment to continuing and enhancing coordination, consultation, and joint efforts with the European Union on various issues of mutual interest, foremost among which is the Palestinian cause.
In this regard, Mustafa called on the international community to uphold its responsibilities and pressure the Israeli occupation authorities to comply with international law, halt the ongoing violations against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, stop settler attacks in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and provide international protection for the Palestinian people.
He stressed the importance of continuing and intensifying international efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian question and implement the two-state solution by ending the illegal Israeli occupation of the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, in accordance with relevant international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
