Launch of the Second Gulf Green Mobility Forum in the Sultanate of Oman with Kuwaiti participation
Muscat, Sept 2 (KUNA) – The second Gulf Green Mobility Forum, organized by the Omani Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, kicked off today (Wednesday) with the aim of enhancing cooperation on green mobility among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and showcasing Gulf initiatives and projects in sustainable transport.
The forum, hosted in Salalah, in the Dhofar Governorate of Oman, will run for two days and bring together government officials, including Kuwait’s Minister of Public Works, Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, industry leaders, and leading Gulf companies specializing in green solutions.
On its first day, the forum held a workshop titled “The Gulf Green Mobility System Laboratory” and launched a project to transport medical supplies from Salalah to the Halaniyat Islands via drone (“Sahem”).
Tomorrow, the second day of the forum, will feature a workshop titled “Green Corridors for Ports in the GCC” and the “Wasel” program, focused on organizing and developing express delivery services. These activities will precede the closing ceremony, which will include keynote speeches by participants, visual presentations, interactive sessions, the announcement of green mobility awards, and the signing of agreements.
According to the Omani Ministry of Transport, this year’s forum highlights pioneering regional experiences, while also showcasing Oman’s efforts and national projects in supporting innovation and achieving sustainability in the transport sector through a variety of activities. It also focuses on promoting sustainable mobility, showcasing innovations in eco-friendly transport, and supporting sustainability goals across the GCC states.
The forum aligns with GCC objectives within their development plans and visions, as all member states strive to reduce emissions and promote renewable energy in Gulf transport. It serves as a platform for cooperation in green mobility, exchanging expertise and best practices in transport sustainability, developing joint projects to support green mobility, and contributing to raising public awareness and engaging society in driving change.
