US Treasury Secretary: We are holding private talks with China regarding Iran

Washington, Jan 1 (KUNA) -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent revealed on Wednesday that his country is holding “private” talks with China regarding Iran. Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Group of Twenty (G20) meetings held in Asheville, North Carolina, Bessent said, “The Trump administration has held private talks with China on Iran and preventing it from acquiring a nuclear weapon.” He added that “points of agreement with the Chinese on Iran outweigh points of disagreement,” noting that “the Chinese agree that Iran cannot possess a nuclear weapon.” Earlier on the same day, President Trump stated that his country had offered the Iranian regime “many opportunities” to reach an agreement, without success. This comes as the U.S. military launches a new round of strikes against Iran, marking a further military escalation between the two sides.
