Algerian President Carries Out Partial Cabinet Reshuffle

Algiers, Jan 9 (KUNA) – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune carried out a partial cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday, resulting in changes across four ministerial portfolios: Finance, Communication, Labor, Employment and Social Security, and Agriculture, Rural Development and Maritime Fisheries.

The Algerian presidency stated in a press release that President Tebboune enacted the reshuffle following consultations with Prime Minister Ayesha Ghrab. President Tebboune appointed former Minister of Youth and Sports Mohamed Hattab as the new Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security, replacing the outgoing Abdelhaq Sayahi. He also appointed Mohamed Bousslimani as the new Minister of Communication, replacing the outgoing Zouhir Bougmama.

The reshuffle also affected the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Maritime Fisheries, where former Sports Minister under the late President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Sid Ali Khaledi, was appointed to replace Yassine Mehdi.

A new name joined the government team at the helm of the Ministry of Finance, with Bank of Algeria Governor Mohamed Lamine L’Abou appointed to replace Abdelkarim Bouzid in the post.

Last September, President Tebboune appointed the first government led by Prime Minister Ayesha Ghrab, following the departure of Nadir Larbaoui. That reshuffle involved minor adjustments, retaining ministers in key sovereign portfolios, reshuffling some positions, bringing back former ministers to the executive branch, and splitting the Ministry of Energy into separate ministries for Hydrocarbons and Mining.
