Egyptian Foreign Minister Emphasizes the Importance of Cooperation and Rejection of Unilateral Measures Regarding the Nile River

Cairo, Jan 1 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty emphasized the importance of cooperation and integration along the Nile River to achieve shared benefits and mutual interests in accordance with international law, and to uphold the spirit of consensus and fraternity among riparian states to restore comprehensiveness and reject unilateral measures. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on Tuesday that this came during a phone call between Abdelatty and his Ugandan counterpart, Adonia Ibari, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations and coordinate positions on issues of common interest. The statement clarified that the two ministers exchanged views on ways to promote peace, security, and development on the African continent, particularly in the Nile Basin, the Horn of Africa, and the Great Lakes region, and agreed to strengthen coordination within the bilateral and multilateral frameworks to serve common interests and contribute to supporting stability and development in Africa. Abdelatty highlighted the importance of building on the outcomes of the visit made by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to Kampala last May to advance cooperation to broader horizons, particularly in the sectors of infrastructure, energy, dam construction, mining, agriculture, water resources management, and the pharmaceutical industry.
