Buraidah International Dates Festival: Harvest Season Boosts Economic Activity in Al-Qassim

The voices of auctioneers rise in a vivid scene that embodies the date harvest season in the Qassim region and highlights the palm tree’s status as an agricultural, cultural, and economic symbol for the area.

This scene continues throughout the carnival season, which began on 1 August and runs until 14 October. Its events attract farmers, producers, traders, and visitors. Sukkari dates top the list of offerings, alongside Khalas, Soghai, Majdool, Barhi, and other varieties. The carnival’s courtyards have become a broad platform for marketing the crop and strengthening ties among producers, traders, and consumers, amid competition focused on product quality, variety, and price.

From farm to market, the date’s journey continues through sorting, packaging, marketing, transport, and shipping stages, within an economic chain that activates sectors and services linked to dates. The carnival presents a living image of an agricultural season that blends Qassim’s agricultural heritage with economic activity, helping to strengthen the presence of local producers and open broader horizons for them in domestic and international markets.
