Germany: Explosive devices found at power plant in Brandenburg

Berlin, Jan 1 (KUNA) -- German media reported on Tuesday that police discovered explosive devices at an electrical substation in the eastern state of Brandenburg. Citing German police, media outlets stated that potential damage to a power line was detected around 8 a.m. local time, and bomb disposal experts were on site conducting necessary investigations.

Earlier, the local newspaper Märkische Allgemeine reported, citing security sources and corporate sector sources, that emergency teams found several rocket components equipped with explosives at the site and successfully neutralized them. According to the newspaper, the substation had been targeted in more than one attack, with the suspected aim of causing widespread power outages at the Jänschwalde coal-fired power plant. The substation in question distributes electricity generated by Jänschwalde to various regions within the state and beyond.

Last January, arsonists suspected of belonging to the far-left set fire to high-voltage power lines near a power plant southwest of Berlin, causing an electrical short circuit that cut off power for several days to approximately 45,000 households.
