Egyptian Foreign Minister and IAEA Director General Discuss Regional Developments

Cairo, Sept 1 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi discussed regional developments, including the Iranian nuclear file, in a telephone conversation on Tuesday.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the call also covered ways to continue and strengthen existing cooperation between Egypt and the IAEA, as well as preparations for the Agency’s General Conference scheduled for mid-September next year.

During the call, Minister Abdelatty expressed his appreciation for the close and ongoing cooperation between Egypt and the IAEA, commending the technical support provided by the Agency to Egypt under its Technical Cooperation Programme. This support contributes to the development of Egypt’s peaceful nuclear programme, which has seen unprecedented progress in recent years, as well as to strengthening national capacities in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and leveraging Egyptian expertise and personnel within the Agency.

For his part, Grossi highlighted his recent visit to the Egyptian city of Alamein and his participation in the ceremony for the installation of the reactor pressure vessel for the second unit of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project. He praised the close cooperation between the two sides and the progress made in implementing the El Dabaa project, which is one of the largest peaceful nuclear energy projects in Africa.
