Russia announces targeting of a cargo ship and logistics centers supplying Ukrainian forces
Moscow, August 31 (KUNA) -- The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that its forces targeted a cargo ship and logistical centers “used to supply Ukrainian forces with equipment and military supplies,” coinciding with the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, attended by several leaders of member states.
In a statement, the ministry said Russian forces struck a cargo ship loaded with military equipment for Ukrainian troops at the Yuzhnyi port in the Odesa region. It added that the strikes also hit a logistical center in the Kyiv region, whose warehouses were used to store drones and their components.
The ministry further stated that Russian forces targeted the Zamlar Sklad commercial and logistical center in the city of Boryspil, explaining that it was used to supply military shipments to Ukrainian forces. It noted that the strikes also included a logistical center in the Nyrpaitsk area of the Odesa region, which was used to store and distribute military supplies destined for Odesa.
The ministry emphasized that these strikes are part of a continued campaign targeting what it described as logistical facilities and infrastructure used to supply Ukrainian forces with equipment and materials necessary for military operations.
Russian strikes on military and logistical facilities and warehouses in Ukraine have intensified in recent days. Ukrainian authorities said that several Russian attacks resulted in casualties and damaged civilian facilities and infrastructure.
The military escalation coincides with the SCO summit in Bishkek, where Russian President Vladimir Putin is participating alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several other member-state leaders, amid discussions on security, economic cooperation, and international and regional developments.
Since the outbreak of the war in February 2022, Russia and Ukraine have continued to exchange aerial and missile strikes, targeting military and logistical facilities and infrastructure, while international efforts to reach a settlement that would end the war persist. (End) D.A.N./A.M.H.
