Head of the Libyan Government Emphasizes the Importance of Opening a New Phase of Relations with Syria

Tunis, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- Libyan National Unity Government (NUG) Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah stressed on Sunday the importance of opening a new phase in relations between his country and Syria, and of strengthening ties between the two brotherly countries and peoples. The Libyan government’s office said in a statement that this came during Dbeibah’s reception of Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaybani and his accompanying delegation, during which the two sides discussed enhancing communication and ways to develop bilateral relations. The statement noted that the meeting underscored the necessity of reactivating Libyan-Syrian cooperation frameworks, raising the level of diplomatic representation, and revitalizing the work of the Supreme Joint Committee, alongside examining files on economic, investment, and trade cooperation, and addressing several financial issues and outstanding dues between institutions of the two countries. It added that the two sides also discussed security cooperation and counter-terrorism, the situation of the two communities, consular services, files of prisoners and detainees, refugees and internally displaced persons, as well as the reopening of the Syrian consulate in Benghazi.
