Europe welcomes the signing of the mini-summit agreement (4+4 Committee) to resolve the Libyan political crisis

Tunis, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- The European Union delegation and the diplomatic missions of its member states in Libya welcomed today, Sunday, the signing of the final agreement by the Libyan Mini-Dialogue Committee (the 4+4 Committee), describing it as “an important step toward unifying institutions and creating the conditions for holding national elections.”

In a statement, the EU delegation said that the agreement on reshaping the board of the Higher National Elections Commission and reviewing the electoral framework for the presidential and legislative polls represents a significant step toward institutional unity and laying the groundwork for fair national elections.

The delegation praised the Libyan participants for their “constructive approach, political responsibility, and willingness to find common ground that serves the national interest,” and called on the House of Representatives and the High State Council to respond positively to the outcomes of the mini-dialogue meeting and to take the necessary steps to implement them without delay.

The delegation also reaffirmed its full support for the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the UN Special Representative in Libya, Hanna Tetteh, to facilitate a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process.

Earlier today, during an official ceremony at the UNSMIL headquarters in Tripoli, members of the Mini-Dialogue Committee (the 4+4 Committee) signed the final agreement on reshaping the board of the Higher National Elections Commission and reviewing the legal framework for the presidential and legislative elections.
