Libyan-Syrian talks to strengthen relations and expand cooperation

Tunis, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- Taher al-Baour, the official entrusted with managing the affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Libyan Government of National Unity, held talks today, Sunday, with Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad al-Shaybani, discussing ways to enhance relations and develop cooperation between the two countries, alongside a number of files of mutual interest.

The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the talks, held in the capital Tripoli, addressed measures related to the reopening of the Syrian embassy in Libya, which would strengthen diplomatic communication and contribute to following up on citizens’ affairs and developing bilateral cooperation.

The two sides discussed completing the procedures for activating the Libyan-Syrian Supreme Joint Committee and signing the agreement governing its work, thereby opening broader horizons for cooperation in economic, developmental, and other fields of mutual interest. They also reaffirmed their commitment to consolidating the fraternal and historical relations between the two countries and elevating the level of coordination and cooperation to serve the interests of both countries and their brotherly peoples.

Minister al-Shaybani had arrived in the Libyan capital Tripoli on an official visit aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and relations, and at reopening his country’s embassy in Libya after a closure that lasted 14 years. (End) sh b m / f d s
