Kuwait City, Aug. 30 (KUNA) -- August 30:

1986: The Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit was inaugurated at the Ahmadi Refinery, one of the units of the second phase of the refinery’s modernization project.

1990: Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued an emiri decree concerning the temporary headquarters of the Kuwaiti government and certain regulations governing its operations.

1990: Cairo hosted emergency meetings of the Arab Foreign Ministers’ Conference, with participation from 14 Arab states to discuss ways to end the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait. The meeting was boycotted by Tunisia, Sudan, Yemen, Mauritania, Jordan, the Palestine Liberation Organization, and Iraq.

2012: Kuwait signed a special agreement with Jordan for Kuwait’s contribution of $1.25 billion as part of a grant allocated to Jordan by the Gulf Cooperation Council over a five-year period.

2016: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) expressed its gratitude to Kuwait for the generous support provided under the “Syria Crisis Response” plan, amounting to $45 million between June 18, 2015, and June 15, 2016.

2018: Kuwaiti equestrian Ali Al-Kharafi won the gold medal in show jumping at the 18th Asian Games held in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.

2019: Kuwait Airways took delivery of its new aircraft, “Khamis,” an Airbus A320neo, as part of the airline’s fleet modernization plan.

2023: The Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) announced the opening of “KUNA Smart Oasis,” a facility dedicated to utilizing all artificial intelligence technologies to keep pace with the latest advancements in the media sector. (End) M.B.R. / N.S.N.
