Turkey Approves Renewable Energy Development Project Agreement with Saudi Arabia

Istanbul, August 28 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan approved on Friday the government agreement that establishes the framework for cooperation between Turkey and Saudi Arabia to develop renewable energy projects. The Turkish Official Gazette stated that the agreement, signed in Riyadh on February 3, aims to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the fields of renewable energy, green technologies, and innovation, and to encourage large-scale projects that will contribute to achieving Turkey’s goals regarding energy supply security and the green transition. It added that, under the “Phase One projects,” two solar power plants will be established in the provinces of Sivas and Karaman, each with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts. The agreement also stipulates that, under the “Phase Two projects,” additional renewable energy projects with a total combined capacity of 3,000 megawatts will be developed. The locations for the Phase Two projects, electricity selling tariffs, and other conditions will be determined through agreements to be concluded between the two parties at a later stage. The Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and the Saudi Ministry of Energy will coordinate the implementation of the agreement on behalf of the two countries. (End) T.A. / A.M.S.
