Germany and Baltic Sea states seek to establish a rapid response force to enhance security

Berlin, August 28 (KUNA) -- German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said on Friday that his country is working with Baltic Sea states to establish a rapid response force to counter drones and enhance security in the region amid growing threats and attacks.

Speaking at a meeting in Flensburg with his counterparts from the Baltic states, Dobrindt said the goal was to create a force that would enable information sharing and rapid response to threats, particularly in countering drones in the region.

He warned that “threats facing the countries concerned may become more evident in the coming months,” stressing that “affected countries want to transform the region from a zone of shared threat into a zone of shared security.”

The German Interior Minister noted that “threats have become multifaceted, targeting the region via drones in the air, at sea, as well as in cyberspace and critical infrastructure.”

He emphasized that “investigations into the source of threats must be accompanied by practical measures to counter them.”
